2023-2024 Greater Los Angeles Chapter Scholarship Application Instructions
The Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) Greater Los Angeles Chapter will be awarding up to two scholarships of $1,000.00 each for local chapter members to assist with education.

Overview
Submissions will be accepted from Saturday, July 1, 2023, through Friday, September 15, 2023.
Scholarship applications will be scored by three reviewers utilizing the Scholarship Review Evaluation Criteria. The scholarships will be awarded to the applicant(s) with the highest combined score. The scholarship recipients will be announced at the Annual Local Chapter Conference on Friday, October 27, 2023, at The California Endowment. Half of the scholarship will be awarded at that time and the remaining half after the student completes the proposed project.

Eligibility
Scholarship applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited prelicensure (e.g., ADN, BSN, BS, entry-level MS, entry-level MSN) or postlicensure (e.g., MSN, MS, DNP, PhD) nursing program leading to an academic degree, and hold active membership in the SPN Greater Los Angeles Chapter.

Scholarship Application Evaluation Criteria
Scholarship applications will be evaluated by three SPN Greater Los Angeles Chapter board members. Three sections will be evaluated based on points as outlined below:

GPA
Points will be awarded based on the most current cumulative GPA (4.0 scale) from all courses taken in the nursing degree program prior to the application deadline. The difficulty of the coursework will be taken into consideration.
1 point GPA 2.50 to 2.79
2 points GPA 2.80 to 3.09
3 points GPA 3.10 to 3.49
4 points GPA 3.50 to 3.79
5 points GPA 3.80 to 4.00

Personal and Goal Statement
The personal statement will articulate the applicant’s background and professional goals.
Grammar and spelling will be considered in scoring.
1 – 2 points Poor articulation and presentation of goals
3 – 4 points Average articulation and presentation of goals
5 points Strong articulation and presentation of goals

Project Statement
The project statement will provide a description of ideas, plans, or activities that the applicant expects to accomplish over the next year in contribution to the local chapter. Possible projects may include research studies, education interventions, or community service for the pediatric population, and should be feasible to complete prior to the Annual Local Chapter Conference in Fall 2024. Grammar and spelling will be considered in scoring.
1 – 2 points Poor articulation and feasibility of project
3 – 4 points Average articulation and feasibility of project
5 points Strong articulation and feasibility of project

Formatting
The personal and goal statement and the project statement should each be formatted as follows:
• Times New Roman, 12 point font
• 1” margins
• Double-spaced
• 500 word limit
• First and last name in header
• Page number(s) in footer

A complete scholarship application will include submission of the following:
• Application form
• Personal and goal statement
• Project statement
• Curriculum vitae
• Unofficial transcript
• SPN membership card
